Last night Pantone, the worldwide authority on color, announced their 2015 Color of the Year as Marsala.
In Pantone's words:
"The impactful, full-bodied qualities of Marsala make for an elegant, grounded statement color when used on its own or as a strong accent to many other colors."
This is great news for the KOOSHOO community! Just last week we launched our newest headband colors and among the beautiful palette of colors are the Marsala ENSO Headband and the Marsala HU Headband.
We may be a bit biased but we'd have to agree with Pantone's decision on their Color of the Year for 2015. Seeing the Marsala headbands in action has us feeling like we've just made 2 of our most awesome headbands yet!
Choosing colors is an elaborate art that involves weeks of research, followed by several rounds of swatch sampling.
Back in the glorious sunshine of summer we were planning our Fall/Winter color selection. Our search had narrowed us down to about a dozen colors, one of which was Marsala. Before deciding on a color for production we always start with having it sampled on a small swatch of fabric. When we got the dye samples back we knew immediately that Marsala was going to be a hit.
Getting the color exactly right is only half the battle. Next is making sure that we use trim (thread, labels...) that best compliment the color, ensuring that the final product is it's most dynamic and gorgeous self. Below is a a pic taken from this summer as we planned thread color to match the Marsala we'd chosen to go to production with:
Bring it all together and we get what our male model called "my favorite headband(s) you've ever made" in the Marsala ENSO and HU headbands. We'd have to agree with his conclusion. These headbands perfectly play that balancing act between perfect compliment to an outfit and statement unto themselves.

What is a Pantone Color of the Year?
What exactly is a Color of the Year and how is it decided upon? Good question. In short it's a color that transcends all elements of design - from fashion to interiors to paints. If you'd like to better understand how the Color of the Year is chosen, below is an explanation in Pantone's own words:
"Since 2000, the Pantone color institute has been designating a color of the year to express in color what is taking place in the global zeitgeist. a color that will resonate around the world, the Pantone color of the year is a reflection of what people are looking for, what they feel they need that color can help to answer.
Not necessarily the hot fashion color of the moment, but a color crossing all areas of design which is an expression of a mood, an attitude, on the part of the consumers. To distill the prevailing mood into a single hue, the pci team, led by executive director Leatrice Eiseman, combs the world looking for future design and color influences, watching out for that one color seen as ascending and building in importance through all creative sectors.
Influences can include the entertainment industry, upcoming films, art, emerging artists, travel destinations and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, lifestyles + playstyles, new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention. With each unique color shade having its own special symbolism, an additional key consideration is the emotional component and the inherent meaning of the color."
